Saving children and their environment..

Rescuing children and their environment is and has been my calling and my passion. I dream of contributing in my own small way to ensuring that our children inherit, a clean, healthy and secure environment that can support sustainable livelihoods.  I am committed to creating environmental  awareness in our children so that they will appreciate its value. I trust that thereafter, they will conserve and maximally exploit the potential of a good environment for peaceful lives where every body's needs are met.




Our environment today.

Much of the environment in Africa has until the recent past been clean and the air fresh especially in the rural areas. Our urban areas are quite another story. In Kenya, the right to a clean and healthy environment is enshrined in article 42 of chapter 2 of our constitution but our urban environments are far from clean and healthy. In article 69 however we are all required to cooperate with state organs and other persons to protect and conserve the environment and ensure ecologically sustainable development and use of natural resources. Yes we have not just a right but also a responsibility towards our environment. Let each of us do what we can to restore our environment to what God bestowed upon us.

    Great job Sis. Following your lead and footsteps in caring for the kind of environment we leave behind for our children and future generation has been your greatest gift to me and numerous others. As you persistently do this, please know it's never in vain and we appreciate and emulate you. You have all my support and admiration.

When we throw garbage out we feel freed yet the flies it breeds come right back to see. At a greater dimension, when we clear forests the effects are felt not just by others but by us too. When we pollute the air or water or soil, we all suffer the consequences, Climate change is accelerated by human activities and we are all suffering from its effects. Think. Today I visited one of the so called "high end" parts of my city and I couldn't help comparing the environment with that in the "other end.". Yes I appreciate that some members of society pay more in taxes than others but our constitution bestows upon us the right to a clean and healthy environment equally. So why are they sweeping the roads in one area while rivers of raw sewage crisscross streets in another right next to food kiosks and houses. Yes our constitution also holds each of us responsible for keeping our environment clean but look, it seems to me that the eye of those concerned goes"blind" more often in some places than in others. Where are the relevant authorities to sensitize Kenyans about the importance of a good environment and enforce the laws that are already in place?  Environmental anarchy in our society. Apathy towards our environment,  mismanagement of waste, poor or non implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws and regulations by relevant authorities are more detrimental to Kenyans than climate change.   On any one day, somewhere in Kenya, an environmental disaster happens.   Somebody has been electrocuted by exposed live wires,  a child has fallen into an open pit or from an ill secured balcony in an apartment building , construction workers or tenants have fallen from a collapsing building, mine or quarry walls have caved in on workers, killer roads and other good developments that are completely insensitive to the needs and well being of the human beings whose lives they are meant to improve,     not to mention the invisible and incessant air, water, soil and noise pollution as well as garbage.  These injustices happen right under the eyes of relevant authorities, although " a clean...
