Today
Today I visited one of the so called "high end" parts of my city and I couldn't help comparing the environment with that in the "other end.". Yes I appreciate that some members of society pay more in taxes than others but our constitution bestows upon us the right to a clean and healthy environment equally. So why are they sweeping the roads in one area while rivers of raw sewage crisscross streets in another right next to food kiosks and houses.
Yes our constitution also holds each of us responsible for keeping our environment clean but look, it seems to me that the eye of those concerned goes"blind" more often in some places than in others. Where are the relevant authorities to sensitize Kenyans about the importance of a good environment and enforce the laws that are already in place?
Meanwhile, it starts with me and you. We don't have to wait until we have water borne diseases like Cholera and Typhoid and diseases of the respiratory system Bronchitis and insect spread ones like Malaria to name but a few in our communities to act. I can do something can't I? At least I can keep water clean by not "messing" with the river by releasing dirty waste water from my activities into it. I can ensure my surroundings are clean and not breeding ground for all manner of insects like mosquitoes, bed bugs, fleas, and rodents like mice and rats. I can stay clean in body and mind to be a positive part of the environment for other members of the community of life including non human ones like plants, animals and even some invisible micro organisms who play a very important role in sustaining the environment the way God made it and declared it. "Very good."
It is, it was and it must remain, a beautiful world.
At C.E.R. we want all children of the world big and small
to work towards keeping it that way. A beautiful world.
