Environmental anarchy in our society. Apathy towards our environment,  mismanagement of waste, poor or non implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws and regulations by relevant authorities are more detrimental to Kenyans than climate change.   On any one day, somewhere in Kenya, an environmental disaster happens.   Somebody has been electrocuted by exposed live wires,  a child has fallen into an open pit or from an ill secured balcony in an apartment building , construction workers or tenants have fallen from a collapsing building, mine or quarry walls have caved in on workers, killer roads and other good developments that are completely insensitive to the needs and well being of the human beings whose lives they are meant to improve,     not to mention the invisible and incessant air, water, soil and noise pollution as well as garbage.  These injustices happen right under the eyes of relevant authorities, although " a clean...

LET'S TALK DRAINAGE

Image
Who will shout from the mountain top and declare that it is not rocket science to have a very clean drainage system in Kenya? Who will tell the government both at County and National level that we have all it takes to have a clean environment? We all know how the drainage systems in our country gets especially during the rainy season. Surprisingly, this environmental menace is the cheapest and the easiest to solve. Other cities across the globe have done it so it is doable.  In the comment section below, I would like to know which of the following things are not accessible in our country: 1. Drainage pipes 2. Strong nets 3. Garbage trucks 4. Waste segregation techniques  5. The capacity Let's take a quick look at what has been going on in the city Kwinana in Australia.  In the summer of 2018, the relevant authorities installed a filtration system in the Henley Reserve. This system consisted of a net placed on the outlet of a drainage pipe in order to catch debris and keep...

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

Image
Earth is all we have in common and we will never progress if we don't change our ignorance towards Environmental conservation. Improper solid waste management endangers our health and safety, causes air pollution, blocks our sewer systems, endangers marine life and pollutes quality of soil. This limits the sustainability of resources to our future.  Overpopulation and advancement in technology has led to the increase of waste generation. People have become more consumer oriented and will dispose waste they produce without acknowledging the dangers it imposes. Major world disasters happening today eg the Australia wild fires are happening due to our negligence to conserve Nature.  Some of the strategies we can use to minimise waste is by recycling used bottles and plastic bags, composting kitchen remains into nutrients rich in soils for quality agricultural produce, reusing old shopping bags and bottles. Always be helpful in providing information on our ...
It still is a beautiful world but for the degradation. People just have to realize that whatever they do with their environment impacts directly on their present and their future. When we throw garbage out we feel freed yet the flies it breeds come right back to see. At a greater dimension, when we clear forests the effects are felt not just by others but by us too. When we pollute the air or water or soil, we all suffer the consequences, Climate change is accelerated by human activities and we are all suffering from its effects. Think. Is there anything I am doing that is degrading the environment? Even watching as it is degraded is wrong. I must therefore do everything possible to protect my environment and keep it beautiful if only for my own good. So help me God

Today

Image
Today I visited one of the so called "high end" parts of my city and I couldn't help comparing the environment with that in the "other end.". Yes I appreciate that some members of society pay more in taxes than others but our constitution bestows upon us the right to a clean and healthy environment equally. So why are they sweeping the roads in one area while rivers of raw sewage crisscross streets in another right next to food kiosks and houses. Yes our constitution also holds each of us responsible for keeping our environment clean but look, it seems to me that the eye of those concerned goes"blind" more often in some places than in others. Where are the relevant authorities to sensitize Kenyans about the importance of a good environment and enforce the laws that are already in place? Meanwhile, it starts with me and you.  We don't have to wait until we have water borne diseases like Cholera and Typhoid and diseases of the respiratory system Br...

ABOUT US

Image
C.E.R over the years has strived to achieve its objectives through termly workshops that empower children with capacity to create an adequate Environmental awareness. We have continued to promote afforestation and reafforestation in schools and at our Children's Forest at Prisons Stuff and Training College Ruiru. One of our main projects is the One Child One Tree Afforestation Campaign (OCOTAC) that helps promote a tree planting culture through children. This has happened in various schools in Ruiru, Makueni, Nakuru and Ley Hill Primary School in Birmingham U.K. It enables them to appreciate how valuable trees are as they enhance biodiversity and maintain integrity of the land, combat global warming and reduce our air conditioning costs. With the great help of our collaborators like NEMA, AFEW, KUCOEP, Ruiru Sub-County we have planted over 30,000 trees in various schools. Our clean Environment activities have taught children the relationship between cleanliness and hea...

Saving children and their environment..

Image
Rescuing children and their environment is and has been my calling and my passion. I dream of contributing in my own small way to ensuring that our children inherit, a clean, healthy and secure environment that can support sustainable livelihoods.  I am committed to creating environmental  awareness in our children so that they will appreciate its value. I trust that thereafter, they will conserve and maximally exploit the potential of a good environment for peaceful lives where every body's needs are met. Our environment today. Much of the environment in Africa has until the recent past been clean and the air fresh especially in the rural areas. Our urban areas are quite another story. In Kenya, the right to a clean and healthy environment is enshrined in article 42 of chapter 2 of our constitution but our urban environments are far from clean and healthy. In article 69 however we are all required to cooperate with state organs and other persons to protect and conser...
